Area Roundup: Vandals finish season with loss

Angela Hupp had 16 kills to guide the Cal State Northridge volleyball team to a 30-25, 30-26, 30-19 win over Idaho at the CSUN Fremont I & L Tournament in Northridge, Calif.

Haley Larsen had 18 kills and Kelsey James dished out 32 assists to lead the Vandals, who finish the season with a 13-17 record.

Boys basketball

Junior Spencer Swerin had 18 points, 13 rebounds and five steals to guide the Sandpoint boys basketball team to a 69-54 non-league win over Bonners Ferry in both teams’ season opener Saturday in Sandpoint.The Badgers were led by A.J. Bennett, who scored a game-high 20 points and dished out seven assists.

Girls basketball

Junior Jessica Thomas scored 18 points, including 10 in the first half, to lead Sandpoint (1-1) to a 45-26 non-league win over visiting Bonners Ferry. The Badgers (2-2) could not recover after falling behind 15-4 in the first quarter. … Elsewhere, freshman Melissa Hopkins had 14 points and 10 rebounds and senior Tabitha Clark added nine points and 10 boards as Priest River (3-0) defeated Lakeland 53-48 at Priest River. Camille Reynolds had 14 points and Alyana Watson added 11 to lead the Hawks (0-3).
