UI men sign Jgerenaia

Erekle Jgerenaia, a 6-foot-8 small forward from Tbilisi, the capital city of the country of Georgia, signed a letter of intent Tuesday to join the Idaho men’s basketball team.

He will join the Vandals for the 2008 spring semester and should be eligible to play immediately.

Jgerenaia averaged 24 points, eight rebounds and four assists during the 2006-07 season with the Sukhumi Juniors, his club team. He is also a member of the Georgian Under-20 National team and will continue to compete for them in the summer.

Jgerenaia is expected to be one of the main contributors in the upcoming European Under-20 Championships.

Volleyball

Julia Church signed a letter of intent and will compete for the University of Idaho next fall.

Church, an outside hitter from Kamiak High School in Mukilteo, Wash., led the Knights to fourth place at the State 4A tournament.

She earned first team All-Wesco and all-area honors during her sophomore and junior season and averaged 15 kills per match for three seasons.

Church also starred as a member of her school’s basketball and track and field teams.
