NHL : Boyes’ goal in final minute lifts Blues over Sabres

Brad Boyes broke a tie with 58 seconds left, and Manny Legace made 20 saves in the streaking St. Louis Blues’ 4-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday night in Buffalo, N.Y.

Mike Johnson and Paul Kariya each had a goal and assist, Martin Rucinsky also scored, and Boyes added an assist for St. Louis. The Blues have won three straight and seven of their last eight games.

Jason Pominville, Ales Kotalik and Andrej Sekera scored for Buffalo.

Panthers 2, Capitals 1 (SO): At Washington, Florida goalie Tomas Vokoun was superb in a long shootout after stopping 32 shots in regulation, helping the Panthers beat the Capitals for their season-high fourth straight victory.

Devils 4, Stars 2: At Newark, N.J., Dainius Zubrus scored with 9:03 to play to help New Jersey beat Dallas, extending the Devils’ winning steak to five and ending the Stars’ winning streak at six.

David Clarkson and Brian Gionta also scored, and the Devils overcame two early miscues by goalie Martin Brodeur in preventing the Stars from matching their franchise record for consecutive wins.

Flyers 3, Hurricanes 1: At Raleigh, N.C., Mike Knuble had a goal and two assists to help Philadelphia beat Carolina.

Derian Hatcher and Kimmo Timonen added second-period goals for the Flyers in their second win in Carolina in a week.

Islanders 3, Senators 2 (SO): At Uniondale, N.Y., Mike Sillinger scored the go-ahead goal in the third period and then added the winner in the shootout to help New York snap an eight-game losing streak against Ottawa.

Wild 3, Coyotes 1: At St. Paul, Minn., Marian Gaborik scored his fourth goal in four games and Minnesota beat Phoenix, handing goalie Ilya Bryzgalov his first loss in five games with the Coyotes.

James Sheppard and Stephane Veilleux also scored for the Wild.

Blackhawks 5, Lightning 1: At Chicago, Martin Havlat scored two goals in his first game back from a right shoulder injury and Nikolai Khabibulin made 21 saves to lead the Blackhawks to a victory over Tampa Bay.

Avalanche 4, Oilers 2: At Denver, Milan Hejduk and Joe Sakic each had a goal and two assists to help Colorado beat Edmonton.

Peter Stastny added two assists, and Peter Budaj made 11 saves for Colorado, which has won all four games against Edmonton this season.

Kings 3, Sharks 2 (OT): At San Jose, Calif., Patrick O’Sullivan and Anze Kopitar followed up their regulation goals with shootout scores, and Los Angeles won for the third time in San Jose this season with a win over the Sharks.

Dustin Brown scored the winning shootout goal.
