EVERETT – Zach Hamill had a goal and two assists to help the Everett Silvertips earn their first victory of the season, a 4-0 victory over the Spokane Chiefs in Western Hockey League action on Wednesday at the Everett Event Center.

Kyle Beach, Shane Harper and Lukas Vartovnik also scored for the Silvertips (1-4-0-0), who rewarded new coach John Becanic with his first WHL victory. Goalkeeper Leland Irving turned away 27 shots on goal to earn the shutout.

Dustin Tokarski made 19 saves in goal for the Chiefs (3-1-0-0), who suffered their first defeat of the season.

Everett’s Zack Dailey had to be taken away in an ambulance after a high hit from Spokane defenseman Justin Falk left Dailey convulsing on the ice. Dailey acknowledged the crowd as he was taken from the ice on a stretcher.

Spokane outshot Everett 27-23.

The Chiefs failed on all eight of their power-play opportunities. The Silvertips converted 2 of 11 man-advantage chances and also scored shorthanded.
