Mac Stannard scored two first-half goals to spark the Moscow Bears to a 3-1 victory over the Lake City Timberwolves in Inland Empire League boys soccer action on Saturday in Coeur d’Alene.

Stannard’s first goal came just 5 minutes, 45 seconds into the match.

Tyler Powers pulled Lake City within a goal 15:15 into the second half, but Moscow’s Dom Trevisan iced the victory with a penalty-kick score in the 61st minute.

The win puts Moscow (10-4-1, 6-4-1) into a tie with Lake City (8-6-1, 6-4-1) for third place in league play.

Girls soccer

Kerry Moller scored a rebound goal after a corner kick bounced off the post in the 61st minute to lift the Moscow Bears to a 1-0 Inland Empire League upset win over the visiting Lake City Timberwolves.

Goalkeeper Hayley Couture stopped LC’s only two shots on goal to notch the shutout for the Bears (6-6-3, 4-5-3).

Shannon Fraser had six saves in goal for the Timberwolves (10-3-3, 8-2-2).

Cross country

The Greater Spokane League dominated the boys portion of the Richland Cross Country Invitational, while Shadle Park’s Andrea Nelson stole the show in the girls’ half of the meet.

North Central, Mead and Central Valley placed 1-2-3, while University finished 10th out of the 22 schools in the 5K race.

North Central had four runners finish in the top 20. Andy Kimpel led the way for the Indians, placing fourth with a time of 15 minutes, 21 seconds. North Central tallied 63 points as a team, followed by Mead (83) and Central Valley (98). U-Hi totaled 333.

Mead’s Kelly Lynch was the top GSL finisher. He clocked in at 15:11 to place second – 5 seconds behind Joey Bywater of Lake Stevens. Central Valley was led by Bryce Aguilar, who placed 11th with a time of 15:38. For the girls, Shadle’s Nelson set a meet record with a time of 17:37 over the 5K course. Nelson finished 30 seconds ahead of runnerup Sarah Lord of Redmond.

Lake Stevens won the 16-team girls race with 90 points. Baylee Mires led the way for fourth-place Mead with a fourth-place finish and a time of 18:26.

“Lake City’s Cody Helbling clocked a 16:36 over 5K to win the Gonzaga Prep Invitational and help the Timberwolves earn a third-place finish. Teammate John Coyle (17:08) placed fourth out of 90.

Colville won the boys team title, beating runnerup Lewis and Clark 60-81. Lake City totaled 82 points.

In the girls half of the meet, Lake City’s Molly Mitchell finished second with a time of 20:05 to guide the Timberwolves to a third-place showing. Northwest Christian’s Lisa Vandenburg won with a time of 19:53.

Lake City’s Rhianna Grossman (21:11, 11th) and Emily Wyatt (21:53, 18th) finished in the top 20 out of 79 runners.

Lewis and Clark won the team title with 84 points, followed by Riverside (93). Lake City totaled 107.

“The Sandpoint girls finished 11th out of 14 teams, and the Bulldogs boys were 12th out of 13 teams at the Puma Classic in Bend, Ore.

Sandpoint’s Megan Bartlett placed second in the girls 5K meet with a time of 18:34 – 12 seconds behind winner Nicole Neilsen of Borah. Snohomish (Wash.) won the team title. Sandpoint’s Kat Vardell (20:38) finished 35th out of 98 runners.

The Sandpoint boys were led by David Hauesholter (17:06, 34th). Camas’ Shane Giger (15:46) finished first out of 94 and Snohomish took home the team title.
