Chilliwack beats Chiefs

The Spokesman-Review

CHILLIWACK, British Columbia – The losing streak has reached four games.

Spokane scored first, battled back to draw even after two periods, then saw Mark Santorelli spark a two-goal third period for Chilliwack that produced a 5-3 Western Hockey League win for the Bruins in a Canadian Thanksgiving Day matinee Monday before 3,795 in Prospera Centre.

The Chiefs (3-2-1-1), who won their first three games, looked like they might be ready to end the skid when Ondrej Roman connected on a power play midway through the first period for his first goal of the season.

But a two-goal Chilliwack burst before the second period was half over led to a 3-1 lead for the B.C. Division-leading Bruins (6-2) and the departure of Spokane goalie Dustin Tokarski.

Seth Compton (his second) and Levko Koper (his first) got the Chiefs even with goals two minutes apart late in the second.

But that was the end of the Chiefs’ offense. In fact, their last shots. They didn’t get one on goal in the third period.

And when Santorelli, who had a four-point day with a goal and three assists, redirected a Cody Hobbs shot past Kevin Armstrong, who had replaced Tokarski, it gave the Bruins a 4-3 lead.

Santorelli then set up Colby Kulhanek for his sixth goal on a power play at 16:01 to ice it.
