Tri-Cities woman reports rape

The Spokesman-Review

A Tri-Cities woman was raped early Sunday in Pullman, police said.

According to Pullman police, the victim was in town for Washington State University homecoming weekend. She was walking to her friend’s home near Valley Road about 1:30 a.m. when a man asked if she wanted an escort.

Instead of taking her to her friend’s home, however, the man said he needed to swing by an apartment to get something, said Cmdr. Chris Tennant. Once there, the man pulled her into the apartment and raped her, the woman told police.

The victim escaped and was taken to the Police Department by several people trying to help her. She was treated at Pullman Regional Hospital.

Tennant said the woman is unfamiliar with the area and could not lead them back to the apartment, but she did describe her attacker to a police sketch artist.

She described him as a black man, about 25 years old with a slender but muscular build. He is about 5-foot-7.

Anyone with information is asked to call Pullman police at (509) 334-0802.

Girls say man tried to lure them

Two teenage girls told Coeur d’Alene police that a man tried to offer them candy and lure them into an SUV on Thursday evening.

The girls, ages 14 and 15, said they were walking near 12th Street and Hastings Avenue when a passenger in a gray SUV offered them candy if they’d get inside, police said. When they refused, the man repeated the offer, police said.

Though the windows of the SUV were tinted, the teens told police they could see a female driver. Both the driver and the passenger were laughing, the teens said.

The teens told police they changed direction and that the SUV followed them, so they went into a nearby backyard looking for help.

Another teen and a 12-year-old girl told police they also were approached by the SUV and offered candy.

The man and woman were described as being in their late teens to early 20s, driving a silver or gray SUV with a spare tire or bike rack mounted on the back. The man had an average build, short brown hair and wore sunglasses. The woman was white with an average build and long brown hair.

Anyone with information is asked to call Coeur d’Alene police at (208) 769-2291 or the Tip Line at (208) 769-2296.
