Panhandle Picks with Greg Lee
So much for the so-called expert.
The Scribe had his worst week this season. The only nugget of good news is I had company. My guest, Coeur d’Alene Charter boys basketball coach Brian Childs, matched my ineptitude.
Childs and I called only three of eight games correctly. That puts the overall scoreboard at: Lee 41-15 (.732), Guests 37-19 (.661).
My guest this week is Paul Kingsbury, owner/editor of IdahoSports.com. He launched the Web site 10 years ago. He lives in Kuna with his wife and four children.
Since we didn’t differ on any of the games, we’ll have to decide a winner based on point differential. If Kingsbury wins, I’ll give the guests an extra victory in the overall count. If I win, I’ll just leave the overall differential as it stands.
Post Falls at Lake City: The Trojans have had problems stopping teams. While LC’s offense isn’t at the same high-octane level it was with receiver Kyle Johnson, it can still move the ball.
The Trojans have put up some impressive passing statistics in their new “pistol” offense. They’ll have to fire the pistol quickly to avoid the heat that LC will likely bring in the form of Byron Hout and Sean Jolin. LC should be as focused and intense as it’s been all year coming off the loss to Central Valley. LC 35, PF 21.
Guest: LC will win, but it should be close. Both teams have proven they can put points on the board, but LC is putting more of them up each week. LC 24, PF 21.
Lewiston at Coeur d’Alene: Unless the Bengals can find a running game, QB Tom Kerr will be a sitting duck for the blitzing Vikings. This game will come down to which team plays the best defense and creates opportunities for its offense. CdA 24, Lewiston 17.
Guest: Even though CdA lost four of the “Fab 5” wide receivers to graduation, the juniors have stepped it up. I’m going to play the odds on this one. CdA beat Sandpoint 17-10. Sandpoint beat Lewiston 31-17. Sorry, Bengals. Nothing personal. CdA 28, Lewiston 17.
Sandpoint at Moscow: The Bears have definitely tightened the gap among the 4A Inland Empire League teams. But a gap still remains. Moscow’s hopes have to be that Sandpoint will be looking past the Bears to a showdown with Lakeland next week. Sandpoint 36, Moscow 20.
Guest: Sandpoint will run away. According to the IdahoSports.com 4A Power Rankings (which are never wrong), Sandpoint is ranked second with a score of 54.18. Moscow is ranked 14th with a score of -22.69. The Power Rankings never lie. Sandpoint 35, Moscow 14.
