Aggies light up Vandals

Chase Holbrook, returning from a two-game absence, threw for 404 yards and three touchdowns while Tony Glynn ran for two scores, leading the New Mexico State Aggies to a 45-31 win over the Idaho Vandals in Western Athletic Conference action on Saturday in Las Cruces, N.M.
The Aggies compiled 492 total yards and didn’t punt until 1 minute remained in the third period, breaking a three-game losing streak to Idaho.
New Mexico State even had a little razzle-dazzle. Davon House made an interception in the end zone and returned it 100 yards for a TD.
Holbrook put the Aggies ahead for good at 17-14 with a 19-yard TD pass to Kenneth Buckley early in the second quarter. He also threw a 75-yard catch-and-run TD to Derek Dubois and a 14-yard scoring pass to Buckley.
Holbrook missed the past two games, both losses, with bruised ribs sustained in a 20-17 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sept. 29.
Holbrook completed 36 of 49 attempts with no interceptions.
Glynn had an 8-yard scoring run early in the second quarter, then broke free on a 37-yard TD run just before halftime as the Aggies built a 38-21 lead.
By halftime, they had already run 46 plays for a whopping 402 yards.
Idaho redshirt freshman Deonte Jackson had 143 yards rushing on 26 carries with one touchdown, eclipsing 100 yards for the fifth time.
“There were good things and there were poor things we did throughout the night,” Idaho coach Robb Akey said. “That’s why we’re in the situation we’re in.”
Vandals senior linebacker David Vobora said the inconsistencies throughout the game were troubling.
“At times, we hurt ourselves,” Vobora said. “We gave them so many key third-down conversions.”
Vobora and fellow senior linebacker Brandon Ogletree had 13 stops each.
True freshman quarterback Quin Ashley split time with senior Brian Nooy for the Vandals. Ashley wound up 8 of 15 for 92 yards and Nooy was 11 of 20 for 120 yards.
Each one had one touchdown pass, and Nooy threw two interceptions.
“This is a hurting unit right now,” Akey said.
Boise State 45, Louisiana Tech 31: Taylor Tharp threw five touchdown passes, including an 83-yarder, to lead the Broncos to a victory over the Bulldogs at Ruson, La.
Tharp more than make up for the loss of Ian Johnson, who led the nation in scoring last season with 25 touchdowns but was injured last week against Nevada and did not travel with the team. Even without him, Boise had 465 yards total offense.
The Broncos have lost only one Western Athletic Conference game since 2002.
Nevada 31, Utah State 28: Luke Lippincott rushed for 241 yards and two touchdowns to help lead the Wolf Pack past the winless Aggies in Logan, Utah.
Colin Kaepernick threw for 170 yards and two touchdowns for the Wolf Pack. Kaepernick put Nevada ahead for good with a 32-yard touchdown pass to Mike McCoy with 3:47 left in the game.
Fresno State 30, San Jose State 0: Ryan Mathews had a 58-yard touchdown run while rushing for 144 yards and two scores, and the surging Bulldogs remained perfect in conference play with a victory over the Spartans in Fresno, Calif.
Tom Brandstater passed for 132 yards and Clint Stitser kicked three field goals for Fresno State.
