Maude ‘Mickey’ Walker
St. Maries
Maude “Mickey” Walker is celebrating her 100th birthday today. She was born Oct. 21, 1907, in Touchet, Wash. She has been a resident of the Inland Northwest since 1941 and now resides in St. Maries.
Walker met her husband Bernard “Bob” Walker at Washington State University in 1923. They were married in 1927. He died in 1986.
Walker cooked in logging camps for her husband and also worked in the Selective Service for the federal government.
She attributes good genes to helping her live a long and healthy life. Working in her flower garden and reading the newspaper daily helps, too, she said.
When asked what her most memorable moment in the past 100 years has been, Walker couldn’t pick just one. She said she has seen everything – both World Wars, beginning to end; the Korean War; the Vietnam War; cars – her list goes on and on.
Walker has two children: Rick Walker, Metaline Falls, Wash., and Janice Barichello, St. Maries; and four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
