Whits escape in overtime
Andy Largent kicked a 33-yard field goal in overtime to lift the Whitworth Pirates to a 20-17 victory over the Willamette Bearcats in Northwest Conference football play in Salem, Ore.
Running back Adam Anderson rushed for a touchdown and threw a 32-yard TD pass to Largent for the Pirates (6-2, 4-0).
The Bearcats (3-5, 2-2) lost a fumble on their first play from scrimmage in overtime.
Mead High School graduate Jay Tully had 18 tackles to lead the Whits defense.
Whitworth hosts 15th-ranked Linfield next Saturday at 12:30 p.m. A victory by the Pirates would wrap up their second straight conference title.
