EVERETT – Rookie forward Dustin Donaghy scored two goals and fellow first-year forward Tyler Johnson added a goal and two assists as the Spokane Chiefs topped the Tri-City Americans 5-1 in a preseason contest on Saturday.

Spokane, 2-0 in the preseason, outscored Tri-City 3-0 in the second period to take a 4-1 edge.

Seventeen-year-old rookie goaltender James Reid stopped 22 shots for the Chiefs, who were perfect on three penalty kill situations.

Justin Falk and Mitch Wahl, Chiefs Rookie of the Year last season, also added goals for Spokane, which outshot the Americans 41-22, including 16-6 in the first period.

Next up for the Chiefs is another preseason game, this one against the Seattle Thunderbirds today at 3 p.m. in Everett.
