Harriette Cole: Try getting help from Debtors Anonymous for your problem

United Feature Syndicate The Spokesman-Review

Dear Harriette: I have a problem. I can’t seem to save money. Even though I make a fairly decent living and should have enough money to put some aside, every time payday rolls around, I find a way to spend it all before the next paycheck. I’m embarrassed about this and don’t know where to turn. I’ve even had to borrow from friends and family because of my spending habits. I know they look at me as if I’m nuts. I make more than most of them. Can you help me? — Paul, Brooklyn, N.Y.

Dear Paul: You have already taken the first step toward changing your life — you have identified the problem. You need help managing your money. Push past your embarrassment so you can get the help you need. You may want to start with Debtors Anonymous ( www.debtorsanonymous.org), where you can learn to recognize and change your unhealthy spending patterns. Find an affordable class in your area that provides the basics of getting out of debt and learning to save. Check The Learning Annex Web site ( www.thelearningannex.com) for information about classes.
