Chiefs top Winter Hawks
KENNEWICK – The Spokane Chiefs remained unbeaten in the preseason with a 5-1 hockey win over the Portland Winter Hawks in the Tri-City Americans tournament Friday.
Tyler Johnson gave Spokane a 1-0 lead with a goal at 12 minutes, 12 seconds of the first period. Tri-City tied it with a goal 45 seconds later.
Jace Cowen and Mitch Wahl each scored in the second period to put the Chiefs up 3-1. Wahl scored again at 12:05 of the third and Chris Langkow capped the scoring with a goal just more than three minutes later.
Spokane went 3 for 8 on the power play and was perfect in penalty kill situations.
Kevin Armstrong, the three-year veteran goalkeeper, stopped 27 shots, including 12 in the third period for the Chiefs, who are 4-0 in the preseason with two games remaining.
They play Tri-City tonight.
