Lutheran churches plan carnival

Families are invited to attend a Valley Community Carnival on Sunday hosted by three Lutheran churches.

The event will feature carnival games with prizes, a dunk tank, jump castles, rock climbing and a cake walk. Longhorn Barbecue will cater the event. It will be from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 25th Avenue and Pines Road.

The event is free, though people are encouraged to bring canned food donations for the Spokane Valley Partners. The annual community event is hosted by Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Christ Lutheran Church and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

It’s a revival

Bible Baptist Church will host a revival meeting with evangelist Bill Bramblett this week beginning Sunday. He will be speaking during the 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. services on Sunday. He will also speak at 7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Child care will be provided. The church is at 11111 E. 16th Ave. Call 928-1298 for more information.

Church Celebrates move

The Spokane Valley Community of Christ Church will celebrate its move to the Valley with a neighborhood party at its new location next Saturday. The celebration will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 11515 E. Broadway Ave.. There will be a free barbecue from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and free entertainment, treats and games will be available all day.

The church will also host a special worship service at 11 a.m. Sept. 16, with guest speaker Bishop Paul Davis from the Community of Christ International Headquarters in Missouri. A potluck lunch will follow the service.

Opportunities

Opportunity Presbyterian Church will host an Opportunity Fest before and after the 10 a.m. worship service Sunday. The event will detail the programs and services offered to the congregation.

The church will also host a fall family potluck picnic at 5 p.m. Sunday at Browns Park at 16th Avenue and Pines Road. Families with last names beginning with the letters A-H are asked to bring a main dish, letters I-O bring a salad and letters P-Z bring a dessert. There will be kickball, volleyball and Frisbee games for kids and adults. Information about events and programs for children will be presented.

Rally Day

“ Millwood Presbyterian Church will host Rally Day activities Sunday following the 9:30 a.m. worship service. There will be carnival games and registration for Christian education classes. Lunch will be served for a nominal fee. The church is at 3223 N. Marguerite Road.

“ Zion Lutheran Church will go back to its regular worship schedule Sunday with a traditional service at 8:30 a.m., a contemporary service at 10:45 a.m. and Sunday school classes at 9:45 a.m. The church, 8304 E. Buckeye, will also host a potluck lunch Sunday following the 10:45 a.m. service to kick off the Sunday school program.

Program kickoff

The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection will start its fall programs with a series of special events following the 10 a.m. worship service Sunday. The church will provide hamburgers and hot dogs for the annual Grandparents Day barbecue. Those attending are asked to bring a salad or dessert to share. There will also be a youth group car wash and book sale to help the Anglican School in Belize.

The church will also kick off a weekly adult forum on “Everything You Wanted to Know About the Church But Were Afraid to Ask” that will meet Sundays at 9 a.m. The first session on Sunday will be a discussion on the topic “What is the Future of the Church?” Different topics will be discussed every week.

Fall schedule change

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will begin offering worship services at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. beginning Sunday. Christian education classes will be offered from 10:15 a.m. to 11:10 a.m. The fellowship hour will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. each week. The church is at 810 S. Sullivan Road.
