Girls soccer
Coeur d’Alene beat host Sandpoint 2-0 Saturday night and remained unbeaten in the Inland Empire League.
Sadie Simon scored both goals for the Vikings (6-1-1, 3-0), who outshot the Bulldogs (6-1-1, 4-1) 8-4.
“Anya Karmdotich and Brianna Watt each scored second-half goals as Bonners Ferry topped host Priest River 2-1 in Intermountain League action. Alisha Hannahs saved four shots for the Badgers (1-3-1, 1-1-1), who outshot the Spartans (0-2, 0-2) 16-5.
Boys soccer
Ryan Lame scored two goals, leading Orofino (2-1, 1-1) to a 3-1 win over visiting St. Maries in the Intermountain League. Maniacs goalkeeper Nathan Polk saved 10 shots. Bill Thurston scored the Lumberjacks’ (1-7, 0-2) lone goal.
Volleyball
Shawna Heath had a match-high 18 kills and Michelle Guidry added 32 assists and two blocks as St. Maries (2-0) defeated host Bonners Ferry (0-2) 25-16, 25-17, 25-11 in the Intermountain League.
“Sandpoint defeated Coeur d’Alene 25-22, 14-25, 15-9 to win the Walla Walla Tournament. Maggie Reno and Shelby Robb were named to the all-tournament team for the second-place Vikings. Reno had eight blocks and eight aces on the day, and Robb had 28 kills. CdA defeated Hermiston, Bishop Kelly and Pendleton to make the championship match.
“Senior outside hitter Emilee Lepp had a match-high 17 kills and eight aces and Jordan Emmil added 25 assists and 13 digs as Colville (1-0) beat visiting Clarkston 25-19, 25-13, 22-25, 25-23 in Great Northern League play. Jamie Haggenburger had four aces and four blocks to lead the Bantams (0-1).
Cross country
Cody Helbling and John Coyle finished second and third, respectively, leading the Lake City boys to a first-place finish at the Silverwood Coaster Cross at Silverwood Theme Park. Helbling finished the 3-mile course in 16 minutes, 14 seconds, while Coyle crossed in 16:25. Borah finished second. On the girls’ side, Sandpoint finished in second. The Bulldogs were led by Megan Bartlett, who crossed in 19:02 to take second place. Borah was the champion and Moscow took third.
“The Cheney boys and girls swept the Blackhawk Invitational held at Eastern Washington University. Daniel Issa led the Blackhawks’ boys, finishing the 2.5-mile course in 13:55 to take third. West Valley’s Michael White won in 13:44. The Eagles finished second, followed by Deer Park and Freeman. On the girls’ side, Kyle Miller took second in 16:18 to lead the Blackhawks’ girls. Mead’s Baylee Mires took the top spot, finishing in 16:01. The Panthers took second place, followed by Deer Park, West Valley, Freeman and Shadle Park.
