Hints from Heloise

The Spokesman-Review

Dear Heloise: Finally I have discovered a way to keep the appliance cords neat and tidy. I wind them around, then put them inside one of the soft-side drink holders that keep your soft drinks or beer cool. It holds there nicely because the fabric is nonslip, and then it will slip through the handle of my iron or just lie neatly beside a stored mixer, blender, etc. – Pam Sanchez, Flint, Texas

There is always another use for these can holders. Heloise

Dear Heloise: I saw an expensive corner-sink drainer for sink scraps to collect before the compost bin. I made my own by punching 1/4-inch holes in the bottom of an empty plastic container. It catches vegetable peels and scraps, and the liquid, if any, drains out the bottom. I can then dispose of the scraps in my compost bin. – Doris Brown, Spokane

A good hint indeed, Doris, especially for those (more than 25 percent of the United States) whose homes are on a septic system. Heloise
