Hunter safety tips
Youths heading out for their first hunts should review the following reminders from Tom Higgins, 26-year veteran hunter education instructor in Spokane.
Prepare for the hunt.
Muzzle control is paramount.
Unload firearms before nearing vehicles or camp.
Treat every firearm as though it is loaded.
Obey all laws.
Have strength to point out illegal, unsafe or unethical behavior by others in your family or hunting party.
Be courteous to other hunters and private landowners.
Identify your target and confirm the background.
Tag your kill immediately.
Don’t forget what you learned.
Enjoy yourself and consider every hunt successful.
