International Peace Day
An interfaith community event to observe International Peace Day will by hosted by United Methodist Church in Coeur d’Alene on Friday.
The theme of the event, which begins at 7 p.m., is “Peace: Our Community – Our World.” The sponsors are Diakonia and Peace Coeur d’Alene.
Several guest speakers will address International Peace Day, the Department of Peace legislation and restorative justice. There will be live music, refreshments, small group discussions and prayer.

Christianity, Islam talk
Whitworth University will present a lecture on “Christianity, Islam and the War on Terror” at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Cowles Auditorium on the Whitworth campus.
The speaker is Dinesh D’Souza, author of “The Enemy at Home: The Cultural Left and Its Responsibility for 9/11.”

Grief discussion
Life Center Church will launch an 11-week Bible-based grief support group on Monday.
The “GriefShare” group will meet each Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. through Nov. 26 at the church, 1202 N. Government Way. There will be discussions about grief and learning how to cope with loss.

Bible study classes
Coeur d’Alene Bible Church is signing up women and children for this year’s Bible Study Fellowship classes. Children should not attend classes until registered.
Women and children ages 2-5 may register Wednesday at 9:10 a.m. at the church, 5350 N. Fourth St. in Coeur d’Alene. For more information, call (208) 772-6239.

Prayer Time
Simpson United Methodist Church in Pullman will be open for “Prayer Time” each Tuesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
The schedule will continue through Oct. 9. Anyone is welcome at the church for meditation and quiet prayer during that time.

Organ concert
St. John’s Lutheran Church will host a final organ concert Sunday in the church building at Third and Division.
The concert, which begins at 4 p.m., will feature current and former organists as well as a hymn sing. A reception will follow the performance.
It will be the last concert until the organ is moved to the congregation’s new home at 5810 Meadowlane Road. Donations will be accepted.
Contemporary Celtic Eucharist
St. David’s Episcopal Church will host a special worship service at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The service will feature contemporary chants, piano and flute music. Refreshments will follow. Those attending are asked to bring a snack or beverage to share.
