People: Rivers still runs off at the mouth
Joan Rivers will be missing from the red carpet scene Sunday night at this year’s Emmy Awards, but she’ll still be cracking wise about it – on the Web.
Rivers, 74, and her daughter, Melissa, 39, will blog about the telecast’s most memorable moments and fashion hits and misses on emmyswithjoan.com, a special section of the Web site VH1Eyecandy.comnday.
Their commentary will be seen in an online video and heard in two video podcasts wrapping up the red-carpet and awards-show portions of the night, VH1 said.
Rivers and her daughter launched TV Guide Network’s red-carpet programming in January 2005 after previously appearing as red-carpet hosts on E! Entertainment.
Actress Lisa Rinna and former ‘N Sync singer Joey Fatone, who both have been contestants on “Dancing With the Stars,” are replacing the Rivers combo on the TV Guide Network’s red-carpet show Sunday at 6 p.m. (cable channel 99 in Spokane, 20 in Coeur d’Alene).
The Emmys will air Sunday at 8 p.m. on Fox (KAYU-28, cable channel 3 in Spokane), following that network’s red-carpet show at 7.
Smooth sailing for Cruise
The makers of a movie starring Tom Cruise as Germany’s most famous anti-Hitler plotter can film at a Berlin historic site after all.
Cruise plays Col. Claus Graf Schenk von Stauffenberg, who was executed after a failed attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler in 1944.
German officials initially refused to allow filming at the site where von Stauffenberg was executed – the Bendlerblock, now a memorial to anti-Nazi resistance – because of concerns about “the dignity of the place.”
The German government also has been outspokenly critical of Scientology, of which Cruise is a leading proponent.
Like a goyim
Clapping and singing, Madonna joined in a Kabbalah conference Friday in Tel Aviv to celebrate the Jewish New Year.
The singer was raised a Roman Catholic but has become a follower of Jewish mysticism in recent years. She has taken the Hebrew name Esther and has been seen wearing a red thread on her wrist to ward off the evil eye.
The way the cookie crumbles
Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst has pleaded no contest to seven misdemeanors, including assault, battery and reckless driving, for deliberately hitting two people with his car.
He was handed a suspended 120-day jail sentence, ordered to perform 20 hours of community service and fined $1,500.
Will she do all the time?
Mindy McCready was sentenced Friday to a year in jail on a probation violation.
The 31-year-old country singer (“Guys Do It All the Time”) has been behind bars since July after being accused of scratching her mother in a scuffle and resisting sheriff’s deputies.
McCready received a suspended three-year sentence in 2004 for fraudulently obtaining prescription painkillers.
