Kids not heard at Freeman

The Spokesman-Review

Well, I just returned from the Freeman School Board meeting and I’m very disappointed. I watched the news tonight (Wednesday), and it ticked me off even more. I believe that if anyone is abusing or neglecting the students and athletes at Freeman High School, it is the school board.

These students have put their everything into reinstating their favorite coach and teacher, and were only crushed at the end of the night. They signed petitions, wrote letters, and spoke in front of a packed gym to show their support. Maybe we should listen to the players, rather than parents.

Doesn’t it seem like the students actually know what is going on behind the doors of the practice gym and locker room?

I would have to say 90 percent of the attendees were pro-Thacker. I don’t understand how one lynching squad composed of seven families can move a school board so drastically.

This summer the school board decided on certain standards that the coaches must from here on out obey. Mike Thacker was not even given a chance to abide by those standards. If a school board wants us to back them, then I think they need to back the community, rather than a small group of parents.

I really hope that, come November when we have zero boys on the basketball court, someone will realize the huge mistake three members of the school board made.
