M’s fan misses Piniella

The Spokesman-Review

As a Mariners fan, these past few weeks have been tough to stomach. Starting pitchers have really struggled, more so lately. It has worn out the bullpen to the point it is no longer effective.

Hitting has held the team up, but has had its problems as of late. John McLaren has been content to just ride this out, which put us out of the playoffs.

Lou (Piniella) would make changes in starting pitching when it was in a slump. He’d start a kid from Double-A who has been hot, or a proven bullpen pitcher. In doing so it seemed to catch the other team unprepared, gave our starters extra rest and set matchups that worked better. I miss Lou.
