Indians 6, Tigers 5 (11): At Cleveland, Casey Blake homered with one out in the 11th inning to give the Indians a come-from-behind win over Detroit, which slid 5 1/2 games back in a Central race that could soon be over. The Indians trailed 5-2 in the eighth before rallying to take the opener of a three-game series that could decide the division.

White Sox 11, Royals 3: At Kansas City, Mo., Jermaine Dye, Danny Richar and Josh Fields homered in an 11-run fifth inning as Chicago defeated the Royals. Chicago, which sent 14 men to the plate, had its biggest inning since an 11-run third at St. Louis on June 20 last year.

Yankees 8, Orioles 5: At New York, Hideki Matsui broke out of a long slump with a go-ahead homer, and the Yankees trimmed their deficit in the East by beating Baltimore. Phil Hughes won his second consecutive start with help from a bullpen that escaped two bases-loaded jams.

Twins 5, Rangers 4: At Minneapolis, Ian Kinsler misplayed Jason Bartlett’s popup with two outs in the ninth inning, allowing Lew Ford to score the winning run as Minnesota rallied to beat Texas. Joe Mauer homered for the Twins, who ended a four-game losing streak.

Angels 10, Devil Rays 7: At Anaheim, Calif., Chone Figgins and Casey Kotchman each had three hits and two RBIs, and Los Angeles lowered its magic number for clinching the West to five with a victory over Tampa Bay. Darren Oliver allowed two hits in 1 2/3 scoreless innings for the Angels, who had 18 hits. Los Angeles overcame deficits of 2-0 and 4-3 and also wasted leads of 3-2 and 6-4.
