Muckleshoots offer land for arena to keep Sonics
The Muckleshoot Indian tribe, calling it a “contribution to the region,” said it will donate a 26.5-acre site it owns next to the Emerald Downs racetrack in Auburn, to whoever wants to build a multipurpose arena to keep the Seattle SuperSonics and Storm in the Puget Sound region.
A feasibility study paid for by the tribe said the proposed site could accommodate an 18,500-seat arena along with parking. It would cost about $450 million, the tribe said.
•NBA referee Joey Crawford was reinstated by commissioner David Stern, five months after he was suspended indefinitely for improper on-court conduct.
San Antonio Spurs star Tim Duncan contended that Crawford challenged him to a fight during a game against the Dallas Mavericks on April 15. Crawford ejected Duncan while the player was laughing on the bench. Stern cited a pattern of similar acts in suspending Crawford.
•Restricted free-agent guard Charlie Bell signed a $18.5 million, five-year offer sheet with the Miami Heat, and will wait to see if Milwaukee chooses to match that deal.
•Former Oklahoma State star Byron Houston was sentenced to four years in prison on an indecent exposure conviction.

Lisa Fernandez, the gold-medal winning pitcher who also led the Americans in hitting at the Athens Games, was one of 18 players selected to the U.S. roster. Fernandez had taken a three-year break to give birth and take care of her first child.
Fernandez and outfielder Laura Berg will be trying for their fourth gold medals next August in Beijing.
