Whittier edges Puget Sound

Josh Scurlock passed for 172 yards and three touchdowns and the Whittier Poets held off the Puget Sound Loggers 28-26 in non-conference play in Tacoma.

Spencer Crace passed for 277 yards and a score for the Loggers (2-1).

Scurlock also rushed for a game-high 106 yards for Whittier (1-1).

Pacific Lutheran 34, Chapman 13: Brett Gordon passed for 153 yards and two touchdowns before leaving in the second quarter with a shoulder injury and the Lutes (3-0) cruised to a non-conference victory over the Panthers (1-1) in Puyallup, Wash.

Craig Chiado had six receptions for 113 yards and a score for PLU.

The Lutes held Chapman to minus-2 yards rushing on 28 attempts.

Central Washington 43, Minnesota-Duluth 21: Mike Reilly completed 24 of 35 passes for 325 yards and four touchdowns to spark the Wildcats (2-1, 1-1 North Central Conference) to a victory over the Bulldogs (1-3, 0-2) in Ellensburg.

Johnny Lopez rushed for 100 yards on 26 carries for CWU.

North Dakota 63, Western Washington 42: Ryan Chappell rushed for 214 yards and four touchdowns to power the second-ranked Fighting Sioux (4-0, 2-0 NCC) to a victory over the Vikings (1-2, 0-2) in Bellingham. The game was tied 21-21 at the half.
