Development plans slated for hearings
Two land-use hearings are scheduled this week involving proposed commercial development along Regal Street in southeast Spokane.
Black Development is seeking land-use changes from residential to commercial uses on two properties at 4901 and 5002 S. Regal St. involving about 29 acres of land.
On Tuesday, the city hearing examiner will consider an appeal of a mitigated environmental determination of nonsignificance at 11 a.m. in conference room 2-B at City Hall. The appeal is being brought by residents of the Southgate neighborhood.
On Wednesday, the Plan Commission will hold public hearings on the two proposed amendments to the comprehensive land-use plan, both of which are being opposed by residents of the neighborhood, who are asking for a wider planning process prior to any land-use changes. Spokane Radio/KXLY is identified as the owner at 5002 S. Regal.
The commission hearing is at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall.
Another land-use change is being sought for approximately 20 acres of land between 53rd and 55th avenues on the east side of Regal, and a hearing has been set before the Spokane Planning Commission for Oct. 11 at 9 a.m. in the commissioner’s assembly room in the lower level of the county Public Works Building, 1026 W. Broadway. That application involves changing the land use from low-density residential to medium-density residential and mixed commercial and residential use.
