Favre matches Marino’s mark

Brett Favre threw his 420th career touchdown pass in the fourth quarter of the Green Bay Packers’ game against the San Diego Chargers at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis., on Sunday, tying Dan Marino’s all-time NFL record.

Favre, who is playing his 17th NFL season and turns 38 next month, was credited with a 57-yard completion to Greg Jennings, who ran a slant pattern from the left side. The touchdown, with 2:03 remaining, gave the Packers a 24-21 lead.

Following the touchdown, Favre sprinted down field with his arms in the air and got down on his knees to congratulate Jennings. Favre then picked up his favorite receiver Donald Driver before heading to the sideline where teammates were lining up to hug the new record holder.

Walker tops off big season

Brad Walker capped a big year in a big way.

The University High School graduate from Spokane, fresh off a victory at the IAAF World Track and Field Championships, closed his 2007 season with another dramatic pole vault finish at the World Athletics Final in Stuttgart, Germany.

Stuck in fourth place because of misses at lower heights, Walker made tactical passes at two different heights, then cleared 19 feet, 4 3/4 inches on his second attempt to beat Germany’s Bjorn Otto for the $30,000 first prize.

“It was an amazing competition,” said Walker, “and the Germans did jump really well. But I knew that I would win this.”

BASEBALL

Not his day

San Diego Padres left fielder Milton Bradley was ejected and then injured his right knee during a bizarre sequence against Colorado.

Bradley reached on a two-out eighth-inning single, then said something to umpire Mike Winters. During the course of Kevin Kouzmanoff’s at-bat, it escalated into an argument and Padres manager Bud Black came running out.

Bradley went after Winters, was restrained by coach Bobby Meacham, then was ejected. Bradley continued to go after Winters. Black tired to restrain Bradley, grabbing him by the jersey and pushed him to the ground. Bradley grabbed his right knee and had to be helped off the field.
