Hints from Heloise

The Spokesman-Review

Dear Heloise: With the advent of carpal tunnel in my right hand, ironing has become something to be put off for as long as possible. A stormy Sunday afternoon was the impetus I needed today to get the job done.

Spray starch in hand, I tackled the first garment, picking up the spray can constantly for each section, the pain beginning in my hand. I figured there had to be a better way, so before laying down the next garment, I sprayed the entire top of the ironing board, then laid down the garment and commenced to iron with my spray iron. The result was spectacular – a smooth, evenly starched dress with no blotchy spots from the spray starch, and I had to use the can only once. – Selma L. Hirschberg, Dallas

Glad you got the job done. Here’s an old Heloise Hint: Spray the entire garment, then iron quickly. If the item is not large, this works well. Heloise
