‘Dirty’ money spends as easily
Life is all about “Dirty Sexy Money” for William Baldwin.
Not only is the younger brother of Alec Baldwin a cast member in the new ABC show of that name, but he is trying to raise money of any kind for his mother’s foundation.
Baldwin is trying to benefit The Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund, which his mother established in 1996 after surviving breast cancer.
“I was very lucky … to get a significant number of people on board and committed,” Baldwin said. “And I think that sort of created somewhat of an aura, where people were like, ‘You know, we wanna be in on this.’ “
Items include a day on the campaign trail with presidential hopeful John Edwards, a private falconry lesson from Robert Kennedy Jr., a walk-on role on NBC’s “30 Rock” (which stars Alec Baldwin) and backstage passes to concerts by Melissa Etheridge and Sheryl Crow.
There’s also a chance to join Miley Cyrus – “Hannah Montana” herself – on tour for a day.
“That’s gonna go for a fortune,” Baldwin said.
Costner rocks on
Kevin Costner and his rockabilly band Modern West drew a crowd of more than 1,000 at a concert Friday night in Santa Fe, N.M. Of course, the concert was free. And it was all a set-up for a scene in Costner’s upcoming film “Swing Vote.” Filmed mostly in Belen, south of Albuquerque, “Swing Vote” is a political comedy set to be released before the November election. It involves a presidential race between a Republican (Kelsey Grammer) and Democratic (Dennis Hopper) whose race comes down to a single vote.
Dafoe went home again
To Willem Dafoe, going home is instinctive. Dafoe, who grew up in Appleton, Wis., spoke Friday at the Milwaukee International Film Festival. He explained about leaving town after high school, attending college and pursuing an acting career that led to such films as “Platoon” and “The English Patient.”
Old ties, Dafoe said, “started the most important, and then I think everybody goes away from that for a little while. And then they come back to that. It’s like a primitive impulse.”
Brown daughter says it out loud
LaRhonda Petitt, a retired flight attendant and schoolteacher, wants to be included in the division of the late singer James Brown‘s estate. Pettit is one of three people who claim that DNA tests prove that they are children of Brown, who died at age 73 on Christmas day.
“I’ve been walking around looking like this man for 45 years,” Petitt said. “I’m not talking no negative talk. I’m talking about what’s right.”
