Retreat site fundraiser

Immaculate Heart Retreat Center will host its 13th annual Octoberfeast fundraiser on Oct. 7.

The event will include activities for children from 2 to 5 p.m. Activities will include games, a jumping castle, hayrides and face painting.

The cost is $12 for adults and free for children 12 and under. The cost includes food and beverages.

Several adults-only activities will be offered in the evening. These will include a silent auction, live auction, Bavarian buffet and live entertainment.

The evening event will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m., and will cost $25.

Octoberfeast raises funds for the center, which offers retreats and religious programs. The center is at 6910 S. Ben Burr Road.

Guest lecturer

Whitworth University will host Richard Cizik, vice president for governmental affairs for the National Association of Evangelicals, during a lecture Thursday at 7 p.m. in Weyerhaeuser Hall on the Whitworth campus. He will be speaking on the role of Christian evangelicals in the future of climate-change activism.

Pet blessing

The Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist will host its annual pet blessing service next Saturday in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of pets. The outdoor service will begin at 5:30 p.m. at 127 E. 12th Ave.

Pets of all types are welcome, but participants are asked to have animals leashed or caged, as necessary.
