Duke transfer eyes Gonzaga

Taylor King has decided to leave Duke’s program and Gonzaga is one of several schools he’s considering, according to his high school coach.

Mater Dei High coach Gary McKnight spent the weekend with King, a freshman at Duke.

“It’s his decision,” McKnight said. “He’s a McDonald’s All-American and he didn’t get much playing time. Obviously, he wants to go some somewhere where he’s going to play.”

Gonzaga and Villanova were reportedly among the finalists when King opted for Duke.

McKnight said there are “four or five schools out there that fit him pretty good and obviously Gonzaga is one of them. So is San Diego, Syracuse and a couple of Pac-10 schools will court him.”

The 6-foot-7 King was a prolific scorer in high school. He finished with 3,214 points, fourth in California history.
