Sounds like he’s sweatin’ it out

Look for some surprises when Jimmy Kimmel marks the 1,000th episode of his late-night ABC talk show tonight.

“This morning I woke up with Richard Simmons in my bedroom for something we’re preparing for the show,” he says.

“I don’t want to give too many details, but suffice it to say that Sam Elliot and Richard Simmons were hovering over me.”

Whether the taped bit can top Kimmel’s video duel with girlfriend Sarah Silverman remains to be seen.

Kimmel marvels at the online popularity of the comic films – one in which Silverman and Matt Damon sing of their faux hot love affair, and the other with Kimmel claiming a romance with Damon pal Ben Affleck.

There’s a chance Silverman might contribute to the 90-minute “Jimmy Kimmel Live” anniversary special, airing tonight at 11:35 p.m.

Eva Longoria Parker and Kid Rock are among the scheduled guests.

“I’m aware there are plans being laid I’m not supposed to know about,” Kimmel says.

While he has mixed feelings about a possible surprise, he adds, “it usually works out OK.”

Some late returns

Elsewhere on the late-night talk scene:

•British soccer star David Beckham got to know one of his neighbors on Tuesday night’s “Tonight Show”: Jay Leno.

Since moving to Los Angeles to play for the Galaxy, Beckham has lived in the same neighborhood as Leno.

He apologized for the paparazzi hanging around the neighborhood, but also said American celebrity photographers “have been kind to us” compared to those across the pond.

•Republican presidential candidate John McCain good-naturedly sparred with David Letterman on Tuesday night’s “Late Show.”

Letterman joked that McCain reminded him of “the guy at the hardware store who makes the keys” and “the guy who can’t stop talking about how well his tomatoes are doing.”

Replied McCain: “Well, you look like a guy whose laptop would be seized by the authorities.”

Fools in love

Long-rumored romantic pair Beyonce Knowles and Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter may soon be the first couple of hip-hop.

The superstar entertainers took out a marriage license Tuesday in Scarsdale, N.Y., People magazine reports – which happened to be April Fool’s Day.

Carrying their water?

With her 18th chart-topper, “Touch My Body,” Mariah Carey has passed Elvis Presley for the most No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, and is second only to the Beatles.

“I really can never put myself in the category of people who have not only revolutionized music but also changed the world,” she admits. “That’s a completely different era and time.”
