Clifford Bromling
Colfax
Clifford Bromling celebrated his 100th birthday March 21.
He was born in Madison Lake, Minn., on March 21, 1908. He moved to Spokane from North Dakota and currently lives in Colfax.
He met his wife, Maxine, when he was in college at Whitworth and asked her to be his date to a football game. They became college sweethearts and were married in 1934. She died in 1981.
Bromling says his most rewarding life achievement is graduating from college in 1931. He also spoke about designing and building their family dream house in Mukilteo, Wash., in 1959.
He attributes his long and healthy life to hard work and taking care of himself. Bromling says he always had a garden to work in, and he always had more than one job: from working in clothing stores, to digging ditches for new roads in Spokane for the Works Progress Administration, to being a high school teacher.
When asked what his most memorable moment in his 100 years has been, Bromling replied, “when I met my wife, Maxine.” Bromling also adds on turning 100, “if I felt any better, I’d run away with myself!”
He has two children: David Bromling, Oakesdale, Wash., and Clifflyn Bromling, Mukilteo, Wash.; and two grandchildren.
