Transportation advisory planned

The Kootenai Metropolitan Planning Organization is working to form a Public Transportation Roundtable of people who will advise the organization on public transportation service and potential improvements.

Members include transit providers, social service agencies and other stakeholders.

A meeting to form the group is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. on April 8 at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library, 702 E. Front St.

The public is welcome, but no public comment will be taken at this initial meeting.

Group to present higher ed project

Coeur d’Alene’s higher education corridor project will get a boost next month when Coeur d’Alene, North Idaho College and University of Idaho officials travel to Portland to take part in the Mayors’ Institute on City Design.

Mayor Sandi Bloem, City Administrator Wendy Gabriel, NIC Board member Mic Armon and University of Idaho-Coeur d’Alene Associate Vice President Larry Branen will attend the May 7-9 event where they will present information about the corridor and meet with design experts to discuss ways to overcome challenges and improve the project.

Mayors from other cities will also present information about projects for feedback.

Signup under way for CYT classes

Registration is open for Christian Youth Theater-North Idaho’s spring session of theater arts classes through April 11. All registered students ages 8 to 18 are eligible to audition for the spring musical, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” to be performed at the Lake City Playhouse, 1320 E. Garden Ave., Coeur d’Alene, May 29 - June 6.

Auditions will be held on April 11 from 4 to 7 p.m. at The Altar Church, 901 E. Best Ave., Coeur d’Alene. Call 819-9281 to register or for more information.

NIC students display artwork

North Idaho College students will have the opportunity to exhibit their artwork during the Student Art Show April 14 through May 9 in the Boswell Hall Corner Gallery.

“This is a great opportunity for our students to exhibit the pieces they’ve created throughout the year and to experience the last cycle of the artistic process,” said NIC Boswell Hall Corner Gallery Coordinator and Art Instructor Allie Vogt.

The Student Art Show will feature a variety of original works created by students in their art classes. Disciplines include graphic design, photography, printmaking, illustration, sculpture, ceramics, drawing and painting.

The opening reception for the show will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 14 in the gallery.

The Corner Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission to the gallery is free.

NIC history focus of presentation

North Idaho College English instructor Fran Bahr and retired NIC English instructor Sheila Wood will speak on the “The Gathering Place: A History of North Idaho College,” at 7 p.m. on April 7. The presentation will be held in Molstead Library’s Todd Hall at NIC.

The event is free and open to the public.

Native American performer at NIC

On April 8, North Idaho College will host American Indian performer Jim Boyd at Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m.

Boyd is a member of the Lakes band on the Colville Indian Reservation and recently released his 11th full-length recording, through Thunderwolf Records, his own label.

Tickets are $5 for general admission or free for NIC students with valid student identification.

Tickets may be purchased advance by calling the NIC Box Office at (800) 423-2849 or they may be purchased at the door.

Proceeds benefit the American Indian Student Alliance.

Also on April 8, NIC’s Booster Club Luncheon will be held at Outback Steakhouse, 1381 W. Northwood Center Court, Coeur d’Alene, at noon. Former member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Paul Olscamp will be the speaker.

The public is welcome to attend the meeting.

Sign up to bowl for fundraiser

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Inland Northwest will host its Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraiser April 24-26 at Triple Play Family Fun Park in Hayden.

Teams are still being sought for the event. Each team raises money and then bowls and for two hours, competing for prizes.

In the past the event has raised $100,000.

Gallery showcases area artists

The Art Spirit Gallery of Fine Art, 415 Sherman Ave., Coeur d’Alene, will be holding its opening reception and downtown ArtWalk April 11, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Eleven local artists will be represented and the featured show of the new work will be on display through May 3.
