Blue Jays 8, Rangers 5: At Arlington, Texas, Lyle Overbay hit a three-run double, Vernon Wells drove in two runs and Toronto ended a three-game losing streak with a victory over the Rangers.
Yankees 4, Red Sox 1: At Boston, Chien-Ming Wang gave up only a home run by J.D. Drew and a bunt single as New York beat the Red Sox. A struggling Jason Giambi gave the Yankees a 2-1 lead with a leadoff homer in the seventh inning off Mike Timlin.
Tigers 5, White Sox 2: At Chicago, Magglio Ordonez had a bases-loaded single to lead Detroit past the White Sox for its second victory in 10 games. Chicago’s Jim Thome was ejected for the third time in his career in the fifth inning after he was called out on a 3-2 pitch by plate umpire James Hoye.
Rays 10, Orioles 5: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Carlos Pena homered twice and finished with six RBIs, helping Tampa Bay rally past Baltimore. Al Reyes pitched two-thirds of an inning to get the win.
Athletics 9, Indians 7: At Cleveland, reigning A.L. Cy Young winner C.C. Sabathia gave up nine runs and 12 hits in his shortest outing in nearly two years and Oakland held on to beat the Indians. Mark Ellis, Mike Sweeney and Donnie Murphy had all driven in two runs apiece by the time Sabathia was relieved.
Twins 5, Royals 0: At Kansas City, Mo., Livan Hernandez scattered seven hits over seven innings, helping Minnesota beat the Royals. Hernandez struck out three and walked one, lowered his earned run average to 2.57, and is 3-0 for the first time since 2002, when he won his first four starts for San Francisco.
