Centennial celebration
Northwood Presbyterian Church, 6721 N. Monroe St., is celebrating 50 years of worship this weekend.
There will be a celebration banquet today from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Mukogawa Fort Wright Institute, 4000 W. Randolph Road.
Former pastors will speak at the dinner. The banquet costs $26.
On Sunday, the church will hold a special service, including its hopes for the future, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A coffee hour follows.

Orthodox Holy Week
“Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1703 N. Washington St., will observe Holy Week starting with a Bridegroom Service on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
The orthodox Palm Sunday, Holy Monday and Holy Tuesday services help prepare the faithful for Christ’s Second Coming. All of these services are at 7 p.m.
On Wednesday at 7 p.m., the church will observe Holy Unction, where members will be anointed with sacramental oil and complete the Lenten process of repentance and preparation.

“Christ the Savior Orthodox Church, 12407 E. 16th Ave., Spokane Valley, will celebrate Easter next weekend following Holy Week services and activities.
There will be a Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. Sunday in celebration of Palm Sunday, followed by an outdoor procession with candles and palms.
Services begin at 6:30 p.m. each day during Holy Week. Thursday’s service will be preceded by a foot-washing ceremony at 6. There also will be a special Vespers service at 1 p.m. Friday to mark Christ’s removal from the cross.
Easter will be celebrated during an 11 p.m. service next Saturday. A special potluck meal will follow the service.
Concert
The Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., will host the Whitworth University Choir on Sunday at 3 p.m.
The choir’s spring concert, titled “Ring in the Thousand Years of Peace,” will feature music from J.S. Bach, Robert Schumann and more.

Spring food bazaar
The Spokane Buddhist Temple, 927 S. Perry St., will present a Spring Food Bazaar in conjunction with Japan Week on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The temple will serve a teriyaki chicken dinner with rice and coleslaw for takeout for $10 each. There will also be senbei for sale for $3.50 a bag, and a bake sale.

Church breakfast
The men of Spokane Valley United Methodist Church, 115 N. Raymond Road, will host a pancake breakfast Sunday from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m.
The meal is a fundraiser for the 2008 Crop Hunger Walk on April 27, which raises money for local food banks and Meals on Wheels.
Christian singles groups
“The Christian Singles Fellowship will meet today at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall of North Addison Baptist Church, 6120 N. Addison St.
This month’s guest speaker is Craig Holmes, who will discuss “Thinking of an Upgrade.”

Unity event
The Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard St., will present healing water crystals Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The event will discuss the effects our thoughts have on water and our bodies.

Women’s brunch
The Pasadena Park Nazarene Church, 8822 E. Upriver Drive, will host a women’s brunch at 10 a.m. next Saturday.

Women’s dinner
The Presbyterian Women’s Association at Millwood Presbyterian Church, 3223 N. Marguerite Road, Spokane Valley, plans a Women’s Spring Dinner at 5:30 p.m. next Saturday.
The guest speaker will be Master Gardener and writer Pat Munts.

Used books sale
Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3606 S. Schafer Road, Spokane Valley, plans its sixth annual used books sale next Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
CDs, DVDs and other items also will be for sale. Proceeds will benefit Lutheran Community Services.
Holy Trinity talent show
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2511 S. Pines Road, Spokane Valley, will host its annual Talent/Untalent Show at 6 p.m. April 27.
Those who have already signed up include a magician, musicians, singers and a bagpipe player. All performers are welcome and should RSVP by calling (509) 926-7966.
