Indians 4, Yankees 3: At Cleveland, Victor Martinez’s bases-loaded single scored Grady Sizemore from third with one out in the ninth inning and the Indians won their season-high fifth straight game with a victory over New York. Masa Kobayashi (1-0) pitched two innings, escaping a jam in the ninth, for his first major league win.

Tigers 6, Angels 4: At Detroit, Placido Polanco and Magglio Ordonez each drove in a pair of runs, and Detroit beat Los Angeles for the Tigers’ fourth win in five games.

Orioles 5-5, White Sox 1-6: At Chicago, Brian Anderson hit a bases-loaded single off Randor Bierd (0-1) in the bottom of the ninth to give the White Sox a split of its day-night doubleheader with the Orioles.

Baltimore captured the opener when Brian Burres (3-1), who faced one batter before Friday night’s rainout, allowed just three singles in eight shutout innings.

Rays 2, Red Sox 1: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Akinori Iwamura homered in the eighth inning and Tampa Bay beat Boston for the Rays’ first five-game winning streak in more than two years. Iwamura’s two-out, two-run homer, his first since Sept. 3, came on a 1-1 pitch from Clay Buchholz (1-2), who took a one-hit shutout into the inning.

Royals 2, Blue Jays 1: At Kansas City, Mo., Luke Hochevar picked up his first big league victory in his third career start, Jose Guillen homered and the Royals sent Toronto to its sixth straight loss.

Twins 12, Rangers 6: At Arlington, Texas, Michael Cuddyer hit a three-run homer and Minnesota ended a three-game losing streak with a victory over the stumbling Rangers.
