Diamondbacks 2, Dodgers 1: At Los Angeles, Randy Johnson won his fifth consecutive start, the 293rd victory of his career, and Arizona ruined Manny Ramirez’s debut with Los Angeles. Ramirez was 2 for 4 in his first game with Los Angeles but grounded into a double play in the ninth inning.

Pirates 3, Cubs 0: At Chicago, Jeff Karstens threw six innings in his Pittsburgh debut, and the Pirates snapped Chicago’s five-game winning streak.

Brewers 9, Braves 0: At Atlanta, Jeff Suppan pitched seven scoreless innings, and Mike Cameron and Prince Fielder hit third-inning home runs as Milwaukee snapped a five-game losing streak.

Astros 7, Mets 3: At Houston, pinch-hitter Mark Loretta hit a tie-breaking grand slam off Aaron Heilman in the eighth for Houston. New York’s Pedro Martinez made his first start since July 12, allowing five hits, including three solo home runs, in five innings.

Giants 3, Padres 2 (10): At San Diego, pinch-hitter Eugenio Velez doubled off the wall in right field in the 10th inning to drive in the go-ahead run for San Francisco.

Rockies 5, Marlins 2: At Miami, Ubaldo Jimenez allowed two hits in seven shutout innings to win his fourth straight start for Colorado in a win over Florida.

Cardinals 6, Phillies 3: At St. Louis, Ryan Ludwick homered twice and had four hits, and Joe Mather added a three-run shot as St. Louis beat Philadelphia.

Nationals 5, Reds 2: Odalis Perez pitched into the eighth inning to earn his first home win and Washington ended a nine-game losing streak by defeating Cincinnati.
