Who’s driving Mr. Morgan?
Morgan Freeman is doing well after surgery to reconnect nerves and repair damage to his left arm and hand following a car wreck Sunday night, his publicist says.
The surgery Monday night “lasted approximately four and a half hours including recovery, and he is in good spirits and was visiting with family members this morning,” Donna Lee, Freeman’s publicist, said Tuesday.
“He was walking … and is looking forward to his release as soon as possible,” she added.
Police say Freeman’s car careened off a dark stretch of rural Mississippi Delta highway and flipped end-over-end before landing in a ditch.
Freeman, 71, was freed using a jaws-of-life machine and airlifted about 90 miles to Memphis, where he was treated for a broken arm, broken elbow and shoulder damage.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident. Alcohol and drugs don’t appear to be a factor and no citations are likely to be filed, a spokesman said.
“Mr. Freeman thought he may have gone to sleep but he wasn’t sure,” said Bill Rogers, a retired police officer who witnessed the accident. “He didn’t know what happened.”

In other celebrity medical news, Kelsey Grammer is returning home after being hospitalized in New York.
The 53-year-old actor, who suffered a heart attack in June, checked himself into a hospital the last weekend in July as a precaution when he felt faint. His publicist said Grammer’s medication may have caused his symptoms.
And Bernie Mac’s rep says the comedian is responding well to treatment for pneumonia, despite reports that he was in critical condition or had died.

“Hairspray” star Nikki Blonsky and her father face assault charges following a fracas with “America’s Next Top Model” contestant Bianca Golden at Providenciales International Airport in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
The younger Blonsky reportedly attempted to save seats in the departure lounge, which were then swiped by Golden. The argument escalated to repeated kicking and punching.
Blonsky and Golden, whose mother was airlifted to a hospital for medical treatment, both face charges of assault with actual bodily harm, with a maximum sentence of two years. Carl Blonsky was charged with grievous bodily harm, which carries a five-year maximum.
A short fuse?
Actor Verne Troyer – aka Mini-Me of “Austin Powers” fame – is suing his ex-girlfriend for $20 million.
Troyer claims Ranae Shrider not only released snippets of a sex tape they made, but that the 5-foot-5, 100-pound woman threw him around and beat him.
“When you pick up a 2-foot, 8-inch human being and throw him to the floor, it hurts,” Troyer’s lawyer says.
