‘Comic Standing,’ ‘Can Dance’ name winners at last
Tonight’s must-see or tape
“Last Comic Standing” (NBC) and “So You Think You Can Dance” (Fox) season finales, both 8 p.m.
On the final day before the Olympics, shows rush to name winners. It will be a stand-up comedian on NBC, a dancer on Fox, a commotion on both.
The votes are already counted, so there’s time to fill. Each show will have previous contestants, plus other guest stars.
Fox is expected to have dancers (including a duel between two street dancers) and musicians. NBC will load up on comedy – Jon Lovitz, Penn and Teller, Gilbert Gottfried, Joel McHale and last year’s winner, John Reep.
Tonight’s might-see
“America’s Got Talent,” 9:30-11 p.m., NBC.
Here’s one reality competition that will be back after the Olympics.
Tonight is the second half of the Las Vegas callbacks. Then “Talent” will rest a while; when it returns Aug. 26, it will do two (and sometimes three) shows a week until its Oct. 1 finale.
Other choices include
Olympic soccer, 5-7 a.m., MSNBC. The opening ceremony is Friday, but here’s another early starter as the U.S. men face Japan. The Universal HD channel will simulcast it, then rerun it at 8 and 10 p.m.
“Ugly Betty,” 8 p.m., ABC. Claire’s on trial for killing Fey Sommers. Meanwhile, a perfume Fey created has a bizarre effect on Betty and Henry.
“Flashpoint,” 10 p.m., CBS. A botched bank robbery leads to a hostage crisis.
PBS’ “Soundstage,” 10 p.m., KSPS. Kenny Chesney, whose tours have been outdrawing rock stars, becomes one of the rare country singers on this show. He keeps things mostly upbeat and uptempo, but also pauses for “Better as a Memory.”
