Spokane Valley

Two arrested on burglary charge

Spokane Valley police said Monday they had arrested a pair of “debt collectors” who broke into a nearly empty Spokane Valley apartment.

Ian A. Anderson, 11117 E. 10th Ave., and Grant R. Huff, 616 S. Farr Road, both 24, were booked on suspicion of residential burglary.

They allegedly kicked in the door of an apartment at 915 S. Pines Road about 1:30 a.m. Saturday in an effort to collect $300 Huff said the tenant owed him.

Sgt. Dave Reagan said the tenant reportedly was being evicted, and wasn’t home. He had removed most of his possessions.

Reagan said witnesses reported the break-in, and got a license number that led officers to the suspects.

Man arrested on drug charge

A Spokane Valley man had a tennis ball-sized piece of methamphetamine and an electronic scale when he was arrested early Monday, city police said.

Reagan said the suspect was driving a 1995 Toyota Camry when Officer Tim Jones pulled him over on Pines Road, near Interstate 90, about 5 a.m. for failing to signal a turn.

Jones had stopped the car before and knew it belonged to a woman, Reagan said.

Sgt. Dave Reagan said the driver, Robert Rivera Castillo, 33, of 3020 S. Clinton Road, also had a large folding knife and $334 in cash.

He said Jones kept tucking one of his hands out of sight and refused to get out of the car, so Jones and Officer Sarah Stevens took him out and handcuffed him.

Castillo was booked on suspicion of methamphetamine possession with intent to deliver.
