Ochoa up two strokes at Canadian Open

Defending champion Lorena Ochoa shot a 4-under-par 68 on Friday to take a two-stroke lead during the suspended second round of the Canadian Women’s Open in Ottawa, while Michelle Wie had a 70 to put herself in position to make the cut.

Ochoa, the winner last year at Royal Mayfair in Edmonton, Alberta, had a 10-under 134 total on the tree-lined Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club course.

Australia’s Katherine Hull matched the course record with a 65 to join Taiwan’s Yani Tseng, the McDonald’s LPGA Championship winner, at 8 under. Tseng was 6 under through 10 holes when play was suspended because of hail and rain.

None of the afternoon starters was able to finish the round.

Wendy Ward of Edwall, Wash., is tied for 24th at even par. Tracy Hanson of Rathdrum is tied for 62nd at 3 over.

•Carl Pettersson supported moving the Wyndham Championship to Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. After a performance like this, it’s easy to see why.

The local favorite produced the latest record-breaking round at Sedgefield, shooting a tournament-record 61 to match the PGA Tour’s 36-hole mark at 15-under 125. He opened with a 64 on Thursday. He had a three-stroke lead over Garrett Willis (64).

•Two-time Masters champion Bernhard Langer shot a 6-under 66 in 100-degree heat for a share of the second-round lead with Tim Simpson in the JELD-WEN Tradition at Sunriver, Ore., the fourth of the five Champions Tour majors.

Schultz’s bid must wait

Former Seattle SuperSonics owner Howard Schultz’s court bid to regain control of the team will have to wait until after next season.

Federal Judge Marsha Pechman has set a June 15 trial date for Schultz’s lawsuit, which seeks to overturn his 2006 sale of the team to Clay Bennett.

•Michael Finley, 35, is poised to re-sign with the San Antonio Spurs.

According to a report posted on ESPN.com that cited NBA front-office sources, the guard-forward has reached terms on a deal with the Spurs. Terms were not available.

•Detroit Shock forward Cheryl Ford has had surgery to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee.

Florida wins opener

Florida kicked off this year’s Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pa., in fine fashion by routing Rapid City, S.D., 10-0 in a four-inning no-hitter.

In another early game, Maracaibo, Venezuela, defeated White Rock, British Columbia, 8-1; and Waipahu, Hawaii beat Shelton, Conn., 3-1. The day’s final game was rained out.

•Former cycling star Greg LeMond has reached a $39.5 million settlement with the owners of an exclusive retreat in Billings for the super rich that has its own ski resort and uses ex-Secret Service agents for security.

Wednesday’s settlement resolves a two-year legal dispute in which LeMond, his in-laws and an associate accused businessman Tim Blixseth of trying to buy out their minority stake in the Yellowstone Club for less than its true value.
