Delivery truck driver killed in collision with dump truck

A delivery truck driver died Wednesday morning after he ran a stop sign and was hit by a dump truck on state Highway 3 south of Rose Lake, police said.

Steven P. Aune, 48, of Post Falls, ran a stop sign at Lane Road in his 2006 Schwan’s Home Delivery GMC van and entered the highway at milepost 109.5 before being struck by a northbound 1988 Mack dump truck driven by Donald Hanks, 71, of St. Maries, according to the Idaho State Police.

The crash occurred about 8 miles south of Interstate 90 at 10:21 a.m., according to a news release.

Aune was pronounced dead at the scene. Hanks was taken to Kootenai Medical Center with injuries and released by the end of the day.
