He’s been shaken and also stirred
It’s not easy being Bond.
Roger Moore, who starred in seven James Bond films in the 1970s and 1980s, says in his upcoming memoir “My Word Is My Bond” that things weren’t always as they seemed.
Of the jet boat chase in “Live and Let Die,” he writes: “I did quite a few run-throughs to practice and whilst banking on one such run, the engine cut out. I had no steering!
“I therefore continued in a straight line … directly into a wooden boat house,” cracking his front teeth and twisting his knee.
“There I was, as a fearless 007, hobbling on a cane to my boat and then pretending to be indestructible for the cameras,” Moore writes. “Who says I can’t act?”
The book, due Nov. 4, also recounts the time Moore, 80, bumped into a young Steven Spielberg at a Paris hotel.
Spielberg, fresh off “Jaws” and “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” said he was a huge Bond fan and would love to direct one of the films.
But Bond producer Albert R. “Cubby” Broccoli replied: “Do you know how much of a percentage he’d want?”
Livin’ la vida doble
Latin singing superstar Ricky Martin is the father of twin boys, via a surrogate mother.
“Ricky is elated to begin this new chapter in his life as a parent and will be spending the remainder of the year out of the public spotlight in order to spend time with his children,” his rep says.
Martin, 36, is best known for English-language hits like “She Bangs!” and “Livin’ la Vida Loca.”
Functional wardrobe
Janet Jackson is adding fashion designer to her resume.
Jackson’s Pleasure Principle line of lingerie, in a variety of sizes and styles – all under $40 – will reach retailers in November.
“There’s something for every woman, and that’s very important to us,” Jackson says. “I’ve always hated when lingerie is uncomfortable, so the fit and comfort was key.”
Chickin’ of the suds
Meanwhile, Jessica Simpson is selling beer.
The singer/actress has signed on as spokeswoman for Stampede Light Plus, made by Dallas’ Stampede Brewing Co.
Simpson, who has relaunched her career as a country singer, will appear in ads for the beer and is taking a 15 percent stake in the brewery.
Call it “Dave watch”
And David Hasselhoff is peddling … himself.
The former “Baywatch” star has launched an online social network, HoffSpace, at his Web site, www.davidhasselhoff.com.
Says Hasselhoff: “I decided to start a network where people from across the world might come together and get a conversation started over me.”
