Like a rhinestone cover boy
After almost 50 years, it’s hard to imagine Glen Campbell needing an introduction.
But not only is “Meet Glen Campbell” his first major release in two decades, it shows a new side of the 72-year-old singer.
Campbell, perhaps best known for his ’70s hit “Rhinestone Cowboy,” covers songs by Green Day, U2 and the Foo Fighters.
“I feel so blessed that they came out as good as they did,” he says.
There’s Tom Petty (“Walls,” “Angel Dream”), Foo Fighters (“Times Like These”), Jackson Browne (“These Days”), U2 (“All I Want is You”), Green Day (“Good Riddance, Time of Your Life”) and John Lennon (“Grow Old With Me”).
“They were basically all new to me,” Campbell says. “I picked the ones that I wanted to sing … and the rest of it was a piece of cake.”
The response has been good. Keith Urban called to say how much he liked it, and Yoko Ono sent a letter thanking him for recording her late husband’s song. Petty was flattered.
Campbell, who’s semiretired, says he will do a few shows to support the project but doesn’t plan to tour.
You are derelict, sir
Ed McMahon has found a buyer for his hilltop home in L.A. – and it’s not Donald Trump, who had offered to buy the house and let McMahon keep living in it.
The former “Tonight” show sidekick had been facing foreclosure after defaulting on a $4.8 million loan.
A judge next month will consider McMahon’s lawsuit against the hospital that treated him for a broken neck after a fall.
He says that prevented him from working as a pitchman, adding to his money woes.

If the new man looking for love on ABC’s “The Bachelor” looks familiar, that’s because he was rejected last season on “The Bachelorette.”
Jason Mesnick, whose proposal to DeAnna Pappas was spurned during the fourth-season finale in May, will search for romance among 25 bachelorettes when the 13th season of the reality series returns in January.
Mesnick lost out to pro snowboarder Jesse Csincsak, who’s engaged to Pappas.
