Trio rob groceries from man, 87

Police say an 87-year-old man in a wheelchair was attacked and robbed of his groceries Friday afternoon in Spokane.

The disabled man, whom Spokane police did not identify in a press release Sunday, said the three assailants were armed with a hammer and a knife. The victim was cut on his face and neck, but apparently was not hospitalized.

The man told police he was westbound on Mission Avenue near Hamilton Street when he was approached by the young men, whom he described as black with thin builds, wearing baggy pants and greenish-brown hooded sweat shirts. One had facial hair that police describe as “possibly a goatee.”

They ran north with the victim’s groceries.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or (509) 242-TIPS.
