Freeman wins opener
Freeman shot 61 percent from the field in the first half and breezed to a 71-30 non-league boys basketball victory over visiting Kellogg Tuesday night, as Bill Bland made a successful coaching debut for the Scotties.
Chris Miller led Freeman’s balanced scoring attach with 16 points, while teammate Peter Heinen added 12 points and nine rebounds.
Kyle Kenser finished with 10 points for Kellogg.
Bland was the former coach at St. Joe’s College in Indiana.
In other non-league games, St. Maries got 19 points from Matt Corsi and 15 more from Zach Lehman to bury visiting Clark Fork 56-26. … Rosalia used Jimmy Maley’s 25 points and a 55-17 rebounding advantage to turn back host St. Michael’s 68-46. Michael Ochoa led the Warriors with 21 points. … Matt Corsi made 9 of 12 field-goal tries and finished with 19 points to lead St. Maries to a 56-26 rout of visiting Clark Fork. Corsi also added seven steals, while teammate Zach Lehman chipped in 15 points. Inland Empire League: Kama Griffitts scored 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds, and teammate Whitney Heleker added 14 points as Coeur d’Alene raced past visiting Lewiston 70-63.
The Vikings (4-0 overall, 4-0 IEL) opened up a 39-26 halftime lead and never let the Bengals (3-2, 3-1) back up for air.
Lewiston, which committed 30 turnovers, was paced by Jessica Kramer, who finished with nine points.
Non-league: Chelsea Waters scored 15 points and teammate Abi Quinnett added 11 as Moscow (1-5) picked up its first win of the season by edging visiting Clarkston 37-35. Clarkston lost its season opener despite getting a game-high 20 points from Kellie McCann-Smith.
