No. 2 Biola sweeps LCSC

Meghan Warkentin and Jessica Buffum had 13 kills apiece Wednesday as second-ranked Biola (Calif.) University (29-3) defeated Lewis-Clark State College 25-16, 25-13, 25-13 in pool play of the NAIA national volleyball tournament at Sioux City, Iowa.

Julie Maciboba had nine kills and Lindsay Scott 14 digs for the Warriors.

The Warriors, 30-3 overall and 1-1 in pool play, complete pool play today against Lubbock (Texas) Christian.

Boys basketball

Marcus Kinman and Cody Mills scored 20 points apiece as Oroville recorded a 67-58 non-league win at Republic. Kaleb Koontz scored 22 and Jesse Beck 18 for the Tigers (0-1).

Girls basketball

Tori Orestad scored 17 points and Charlotte Mills added six steals as Republic opened its season by defeating visiting Oroville 44-33 in a non-leaguer. … Jordann Doler finished with nine points and six rebounds as the Coeur d’Alene freshmen posted a 29-20 win at Mullan. Britany Walsh led the Tigers (0-6) with 10 rebounds.

Junior hockey

Dylan Tappe scored his 13th and 14th goals of the season to guide the Spokane Braves (14-12-1) to a 7-5 win over the Grand Forks Border Bruins (8-20-1) in KIJHL play at Grand Forks, British Columbia.
