Crusaders open with road win
Matt Zandbergen scored 16 points and the Northwest Christian Crusaders used a decisive third quarter to pull away for a 62-48 non-league boys basketball victory over the Chewelah Cougars Thursday night at Chewelah.
Chase Ramey added 15 points and Jared Descoteaux 13 for the Crusaders (1-0), who made 17 of 20 free throws.
Stryker Smith led Chewelah (0-1) with 15 points while Forest Trampush had 11. They each had eight rebounds.
In other non-league play:
Priest River 58, Colville 41: At Priest River, Jake Weimer scored 24 points – 16 in the second half – and had 12 rebounds and six blocks to lead the Spartans past the Indians.
Eric Holbrook added 13 points and Max Salesky chipped in 10 for Priest River (2-0).
Cruz Thompson scored 12 points to lead Colville (0-1).
Timberlake 50, Clark Fork 34: At Spirit Lake, Derek Tymesen scored 17 points and Pat Lagrimantha added 16 to lead the host Tigers (1-0) past the Wampus Cats (1-2).
Jared Broggi and Chase Chowning scored 11 apiece for Clark Fork.
Lind-Ritzville 69, Colton 57: At Lind, Jamie Stevenson and Cory Whitmore combined for 41 points to lead the Broncos (1-0) past the Wildcats (0-1).
Stevenson had 21 points, six rebounds and five assists while Whitmore had seven rebounds to go with his 20 points.
Nick Heitstuman had 25 points for Colton.
Curlew 50, Northport 41: At Curlew, Jordan Wakefield had 19 points and seven rebounds and Ethan Mannick had 15 points to lead the Cougars (1-0) past the Mustangs (0-1) in a non-league battle of Panorama League foes.
Marseilles DeAugero led all scorers with 20 points for Northport.
Girls
The Lewiston Bengals (4-1, 2-1) routed the Sandpoint Bulldogs (0-4, 0-4) 71-21 in Inland Empire League play at Lewiston.

Lakeside 44, Wallace 21: Rian Miller scored 15 points and Sandra Turley chipped in 11 to lead the Knights (3-0, 2-0) over the Miners (2-4, 1-1) at Wallace.
Sydney Stein scored seven points to lead Wallace, which committed 30 turnovers.

Coeur d’Alene 61, River Ridge 42: At Lacey, Wash., Kama Griffitts led a balanced Vikings (5-0) scoring attack with 12 points in a victory over the host Hawks (0-1).
Post Falls 57, Holy Names Academy 41: At Seattle, Aynslee Stuart was 12 for 12 from the free-throw line on her way to a team-high 17 points and also had nine rebounds to lead the Trojans (4-2) past the Cougars.
Jordan Schoening had 16 points and Katelyn Loper 13 for Post Falls.
Erika Johnson had 17 points to lead Holy Names.
Colville 47, Priest River 37: At Priest River, Jordan Brons scored 13 points, Moe Stuart 12 and Tanna Morris 10 to lead the Indians (1-0) past the Spartans (1-3).
Taylor Stewart had 19 points and Melissa Hopkins had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds for Priest River.
St. Maries 55, Kootenai 19: At Harrison, Doris Sines had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead the visiting Lumberjacks (2-3) past the Warriors (0-3).
Colton 58, Lind-Ritzville 40: At Lind, Mollie Kramer and Kelsey Moser combined for 29 points and the Wildcats opened their season with a victory over the host Broncos (0-1).
Devon Killian led L-R with 14 points.
Curlew 42, Northport 30: At Curlew, the Cougars led 17-4 after one quarter and cruised to a victory over the Mustangs.
Katie Jo Torzewski led Curlew (1-0) with 12 points while Larissa Miller had 10.
Shyanne Wilson led Northport (0-1) with 11 points.
Northwest Christian 72, Chewelah 56: At Chewelah, Colbi Neal scored 23 points and three other Crusaders (1-0) reached double figures in Northwest Christian’s victory over the Cougars (0-1).
