NW Christian downs Freeman
Northwest Christian used a big fourth quarter to snag a 47-38 boys basketball victory over Freeman on Saturday.
The visiting Crusaders (2-0) led by one entering the fourth, but pulled away with a 17-9 edge in the final period. Matt Zandbergen had a team-high 13 points and Chase Ramey added 11. Northwest Christian limited Freeman to 24 percent shooting.
Taylor Vold and Luke Matthews combined for 25 points for the Scotties (2-1).
West Valley 64, Sandpoint 58: The visiting Eagles (2-0) broke away from a 41-41 tie after three quarters with a 23-point effort in the fourth. Jordan Lupfer-Graham had 20 points, eight assists and six rebounds. Matt Roth had 10 rebounds to go with his six points. Tanner French led the Bulldogs (0-1) with 14 points and Spencer Swerin finished with 11.
West Valley faces Post Falls at Gonzaga’s McCarthey Athletic Center at 4 p.m. Thursday.
Priest River 43, Cheney 41: Eric Holbrook capped a 19-point night with a game-winning layup with one second left as the Spartans (3-0) knocked off the visiting Blackhawks (0-2). Jake Weimer’s 3-pointer pulled Priest River even and Weimer’s screen helped free Holbrook for the deciding basket. Cheney’s Mike Sprenger and DeAngelo Jones each had 13 points.
Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) 54, Reardan 44: Senior Brady Blankevoort finished with 19 points as the host Eagles (2-0) built a 20-point lead and held off the Indians (0-2). Reardan, led by Mike Matson’s 12 points, had 23 turnovers.
Inchelium 51, Northport 46: The Hornets (1-1) held off host Northport (0-2) as Chad Rosenbaum scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half. Tony Louie led Inchelium with 17 points and Brandon Kohler added 11. Marseilles DeAugero had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Mustangs. David Meldrum also reached double figures with 14 points.
Lapwai 95, Kootenai 56: Four Wildcats scored in double figures and 10 cracked the scoring column as Lapwai cruised past the visiting Warriors. Harry Taylor scored 22 points and Steven Weber added 20. Jake Zarpentine led Kootenai (0-1) with 15 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Taylor Dodson had 11 points and five assists.
Rosalia 57, Valley Christian 42: Zach St. John made 7 of 8 free throws and scored 19 points to lift the Spartans (2-1) past the visiting Panthers (0-2). Nathan Richards produced a double-double (11 points, 15 rebounds) for the Spartans. Valley Christian’s Jamie Bennett scored 24 points.
St. Maries 62, Grangeville 52: Aaron Corsi had 26 points and seven assists as the host Lumberjacks (2-0) rallied past Grangeville on the strength of a 26-14 scoring margin in the fourth quarter. Zach Lehman had 16 points and seven rebounds, helping St. Maries to a 39-29 edge on the glass. Grangeville’s Taylor Kunkel scored a team-high 14 points before leaving with an ankle injury with six minutes left.
Wilbur-Creston 48, Columbia 39: Austin Snavely’s 14 points and seven rebounds lifted the host Wildcats (1-1). Marcos Morado had 16 for the Lions (0-1), who were outscored 24-12 in the fourth quarter.
St. John-Endicott 65, Sprague-Harrington 31: The host Eagles (2-1) dashed in front 22-8 after one period to improve to 2-1 on the season. Wyatt Sitton had 23 points and five rebounds and Warren Miller added 15 points and eight rebounds. John Courneya scored eight points for the Falcons (0-1), who had 35 turnovers.
Selkirk 46, Liberty 41: Zach Jensen made three 3-pointers, six free throws and tallied 21 points to help the host Rangers (3-0) remain unbeaten. Trevor Turpin had nine rebounds and Casey Holter seven for Selkirk. Trever Anderson’s 11 points and Ross Nesbitt’s 10 paced the Lancers (1-1).
Colfax 61, Tekoa-Oakesdale 58: Ryan Conrad had 18 points as the host Bulldogs (1-0) used a fourth-quarter rally to overtake the Nighthawks (0-1). Colfax outscored Tekoa-Oakesdale 22-16 in the fourth. Casey Cook and Brandon Hovde combined for 33 points for the Nighthawks.
Genesee 71, Garfield-Palouse 66: Gavin Burt had 14 points and Ben Lynch had five rebounds, four steals and four points, but it wasn’t enough for the visiting Vikings (2-1), who suffered their first loss. Daniel Carlson topped Genesee with 23 points.
Moses Lake Christian 70, A/C-H 50: Riggs Yarbro dropped in 25 points for the winners, who pulled away with a 25-5 scoring run in the fourth quarter. Kyle Tucker had 14 points and 12 boards and Derek Isaak added 13 points and seven assists for the Warriors (0-2).
Riverside Christian 46, St. George’s 34: The host Dragons (1-1) were outscored 17-5 in the fourth quarter. St. George’s Nik Vishwanath and Connor Deife each had eight points. Deife also grabbed six rebounds. Riverside Christian’s Derek Byrne had a game-high 22 points. Both teams committed 20 turnovers.
Kellogg 65, Wallace 28: Kellogg’s Brad Oseterberg-Miller had 16 points and his defensive efforts helped forced 27 Wallace turnovers. Kyle Kenser had 14 points for the Wildcats (2-1). Cody Cline scored a team-high eight points for the Miners (0-1).
Springdale 41, Odessa 39: The visiting Chargers (2-0) survived a wild finish to hold off the Tigers (0-2). Springdale, led by Nick Metlow’s 12 points, led by six with 30 seconds left, but Odessa pulled within two and had a 3-point shot rattle in and out at the buzzer. Odessa’s Kramer Schutz scored 14 points.
Wrestling
Drew Acorn (119 pounds) and Cody Miller (152) won titles at their respective weights to help the host Stags claim the team championship at the Deer Park Invitational wrestling tournament Saturday.
Deer Park finished with 223 points, just in front of Riverside’s 214. Dewey Bender (145) and Nick Desroches (189) were individual champions for the second-place Rams.
Mead was third with 145 points.
